My Wildest Dreams!

It is only fitting that my very first blog is on the day that I have been dreaming in my wildest of dreams. For three years when I have closed my eyes and and have allowed myself the privilege of dreaming decadent dreams filled with wild and wonderful musings of what I would do if I could have the desires of my heart, the item that was ordered today was one of my first thoughts to sinfully savor. As I write these words now, I can barely believe this day has come and in four days I will be standing beside the most beautiful 10 yards of mushroom compost/blend that God has ever created, and it will be in MY driveway!

Three years ago we moved into our brand new home and to cut corners we opted for the builder to landscape the back yard, BIG mistake. We thought they would include actual soil with the landscaping but alas, they opted for clay. Not just any clay either. It is clay that is so lacking in air that it actually stinks. Plants that are placed in it die standing up. The lawn even with it's three drains in the middle, holds water like two greedy hands cupped permanently so the only way to escape is to evaporate...in August. I thatched the lawn this year wearing tall rubber boots and netted such a profit of moss I'm thinking of selling it for my entire community's hanging basket needs.

My husband enjoys my garden putterings, but with bemusement. As I come hobbling in with my stiff knees and sore back after an afternoon of trying to pull a weed, he shakes his head and smiles and says something crazy like, "Why do you do this?" I have no real answer, other than..."its who I am and this is my little piece of earth."
